James Newman, Joseph & Jane Newman’s son was born in 1861 in Kent, England. He immigrated with his parents in 1870 to Canada.  James married Sarah Stephens on July 23, 1882 in St Thomas, Ontario, Canada, daughter of JOHN STEPHENS and SUSANNAH. Sarah was also the sister to James’s brother John’s wife Susan. Sarah was born in 1863 in Exeter, Ontario, Canada.

The “MARRIAGE for JAMES NEWMAN AND SARAH STEPHENS” reads:
James Newman, age 21 from Port Stanley who was born in England, a farmer, son of Joseph and Jane Newman married Sarah Stephens, age 19 from Port Stanley, born in Exeter, Ontario whose parents were John and Susannah Stephens. The witnesses were Stephen and Mary Ann Stanton of Port Stanley on July 23, 1882 in St Thomas. The Religion is recorded as Church of England.
           
The children of JAMES NEWMAN and SARAH STEPHENS are:
·     John Joseph Newman who was born October 7, 1885 in Port Stanley, and baptized December 20, 1885. The Witnesses were mother and ? Clark (?? Grandfather). He died January 20, 1886 of Infantile disease and is buried January 23, 1886 in Port Stanley. Reference: The Church at the Bend of the River.

James and Sarah Newman do not appear in the OH Federal Census for 1910 and 1920. In 1910 James lived in Collingwood, Ohio as per his father’s obituary.
