James Newman, Joseph
& Jane Newman’s son was born in
1861 in Kent, England. He immigrated with his parents in 1870 to Canada. James married Sarah Stephens on July 23, 1882 in St Thomas, Ontario, Canada,
daughter of JOHN STEPHENS and SUSANNAH. Sarah was also the sister to James’s
brother John’s wife Susan. Sarah was born in 1863 in Exeter, Ontario, Canada.
The “MARRIAGE for JAMES NEWMAN AND SARAH STEPHENS” reads:
James Newman, age 21 from Port Stanley who was born
in England, a farmer, son of Joseph and Jane Newman married
Sarah Stephens, age 19 from Port Stanley, born in Exeter, Ontario whose parents
were John and Susannah Stephens. The witnesses were Stephen and Mary Ann
Stanton of Port Stanley on July 23, 1882 in St Thomas. The Religion is recorded
as Church of England.

Witnesses were mother and ? Clark (?? Grandfather). He died January 20, 1886 of
