ARTICLE - RELEASE FROM HUN PRISON Warrant Officer John M Newman, son of Mrs Joseph Newman of Cleveland, formerly of St Thomas, who has arrived safely in England after being a prisoner of war in Germany for a year and three months. He is the oldest grandson of Mrs A Mutch, Talbot Street and grandson of Mrs John Newman, of Park Avenue of this city. He graduated in the RCAF from Crumlin. WO Newman is a native of St Thomas and went to live in Cleveland when a small boy.

Vendetta (Newman) Allen “Ven” another daughter of John and Susan was born in 1908 in Elgin County Ontario Canada and died August 28, 1988, in Florida. She married Edward Allen. Ven lived in Cleveland for many years and had two sons and two daughters. The eldest son was nicknamed “Sparky.”

The Newman Family in Elgin County - Part 10 - George Newman

George S Newman a son of John and Susan (Stephens) Newman was born in Port Stanley in 1913 and died November 14, 1988. He married Lila Wallis who was born in 1917 and died in 1979. They had two children.

The following Obituary appears for George S Newman on 14 November 1988 in the London Free Press. Newman – At the St Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Sunday November 13, 1988. Mr. George S Newman of Rodney in his 76th year. Beloved husband of the late Lila Wallis (1979). Sadly missed by sons Fred and his wife Ruth Ann Newman of London, Jim and his wife Jean Newman of Duart, grandchildren Tracey and Paula, Kirsten and Patrick and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Podfield Funeral Home, Rodney after 2PM on Tuesday where service will be held on Wednesday, November 16 at 3 PM with the Rev David Clements officiating internment Rodney Cemetery.

George Newman. George S Newman of Rodney, a former member of Village Council at St Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Sunday, November 15, 1988. He was 75. He was born in Port Stanley. He lived most of his life in Rodney. In addition to his time on council, he served the community as a 40-year member of the Rodney Fire Department. He also was a member of the Ontario Horseman’s Association.  The widower of Lila (Wallis) Newman who died in 1979. Mr. Newman is survived by sons Fred Newman and his wife Ruth Ann of London, Jim Newman and his wife Jean of Duart and grandchildren Tracey and Paula, Kirsten and Patrick and several nieces and nephews. Resting at the Padfield Funeral Home, Rodney where service will be held on Wednesday at 3 pm with the Rev David Clements officiating. Burial at Rodney Cemetery. Visitation on Tuesday after 2pm.

John and Susan’s youngest son came to live with his uncle Robert when he was a young lad around 14 years of age in Payne’s Mills under similar circumstances as did John Robert. Help was needed so often on the farm that he was greatly needed. He helped a lot on the farm and pretty much lived with Bob until he got married and went to live in Rodney.
